VANITY BE FAR FROM ME

“Ambition, vanity, and pride mislead, when people idolize themselves, you know. Humility and truth could get me freed, and loving-kindness help my blessings flow. Lord, Help me not ta think of me too high, but keep each day a very level head, and not to live confused by any lie – but all and any narcissism shed!”

ALL TOO MANY OF US

Just give me someone I can demonize, another one to idolize, I'm set. I know I'm right, I'm cool, I'm cute and wise, I'm sure as anyone could ever get! What I believe is fact, beyond all doubt; I'm right, and all my enemies are wrong. Reality, I don't know Much about, 'cause my attention span ain't very long! So, please, indulge and entertain me now, I'm very tired of thinking things so much. And You don't Make much Sense, bud, anyhow; I'm much too busy stayin' outta touch!”

HELP ME AVOID CONCEIT!

“When I believe I'm wise, I really stink! Oh, please don't pride yourself on what ya think! Intelligence gets compromised by lies; the prudent 's careful what the prudent buys!!”

NOTE TO A FUNDAMENTALIST

“Conceptual thinking's very deadly stuff, and fundamentalism's deadly, too. If You be proud or scared, you'll have it rough – so Let the Lord reveal himself to You!”

GRATITUDE VS RESENTMENT

“Resentful people lift their noses high, self-righteousness misleads 'em all, ya know. The Spirit part inside began ta die, when selfishness and spite began ta grow. Let's everybody practice gratitude; let's practice peace and kindness every day. I can't afford a bitter, sour mood; Lord, make my disposition Sweet, I pray!”

GIVE IT UP TO JESUS

What Will ya sacrifice ta Christ today? Why not give up your faithlessness and fears! Is that too high a price, ta have ta pay? Such foolishness may bring ya many tears!

Why not surrender All to Him, right here, 'cause You'll discover freedom, as ya do! Why let the prideful doubting interfere? The Savior Jesus wants ta Rescue you!”

TURN AROUND

“Trump prides himself on nonsense every day, and Pence? Complicit, friends, as he can be. It seems that ignorance and greed are holding sway, and harming life and good from A-ta-Z. Republicans, you often act like scum, and Democrats, you've no excuse at all. Why pride yourselves on doing stuff that's dumb? At times you show unmitigated Gall! Dear Lord, relieve us, please, of folks like those! Transform their hearts and minds ta kinder ones! This ecocidal era, let's us close! Destroy the bombs and automatic guns! Destroy the missiles, feed and house the poor! Provide fer all the best of Health care Now! Let none of us be heartless, anymore! Lord, Lead our hearts ta Love, and show us How!”

FROM CAPTIVITY TO FREEDOM

“Why ever let your habit spoil your day? A better, wholesome habit you could start, and what might help ya Do that, is ta Pray – 'cause Prayin', man, can Help ta change your heart! The Lord desires ta help in every way, so, if you'd change, why not give Him a chance? Ta drop your disbelief and pride will pay – 'cause faith in Heaven's love could be your stance! So why not stand upon the Rock, today, and build your life's foundation on real love? “Lord, come inTo my heart” ya now could say, and find the freedom you been dreamin' of! Okay?”

WHY NOT GROW UP & TURN TO THE LORD?

“When vanity, or pride, controls a heart, confusion's gonna reign within that mind. So, selfishness, ya see, ain't never smart, ta Truth that person's gonna be part-blind. A heart that's pure can better understand; we need ta purify our hearts each day. Or evil, friend, will get quite out o' hand, and sane is something we're not gonna stay. So let's devote ourselves ta truth, and thrive; be kind and helpful, very patient, too. A grown-up 's gonna Give up all the jive, and, probably, dear Lord, will turn ta You!”

KINDHEARTED GAL

“Kindhearted Gal, you're very good ta me, and I appreciate the love ya show. And by your side, I'm very glad ta be, you're nice, you're sweet, you're kind, all this I know. Please, don't believe in every scary thought, 'cause crazy thoughts can overtake a mind. And Truth can't be possessed, it must be sought, and pride in knowledge makes a person blind. Conceit is certainly a nasty trap, self-righteousness corrupts a foolish heart, and lies the strength of any mind can Sap, but kindly, helpful truths make people smart!”

THE MONKEY & THE SLIPPERY SLOPE

“When I get bothered by another ape, I often tend ta brood and get uptight. My mind might start ta play an angry tape, to wit, that they were wrong and I was right! So then the melodrama has begun, and I'm the star, inside my little mind. It's me who is the much-offended one, to my responsibility quite blind! So, Heaven, help my crazy monkey out, whenever I start getting nuts like that! I need ta love my Self, without a doubt, and loving Them as well, is where it's at! I let my pride deceive me once again, so sure that I'm a saint, and they are not. Then I be lost as I have ever been, so sure I'm cool, but really runnin' hot! How truly crazy I can sometimes get, and then I need the Lord ta straighten me. Or else the men in white might bring a Net, and padded walls I'll be real sure ta See! So, Heaven, help me always Keep my cool, in Jesus' peace and love each day abide. If I persist in actin' like a fool, the monkey's greased the slope down which he'll slide! Ain't that right?”

YOUR LOVE SHALL LIVE

“We're made of various and sundry parts; our pride insists that we Exalt our Junk. Though life may offer tests, and some we'll flunk, it's plain these junk-piles sometimes have pure hearts. The Spirit part forever will endure, its truth and beauty's always gonna last. And though ya might have Blown it in the Past, your love shall Live, of this ya Can be Sure!”

YOUR EGO DEFENSES ALIENATE YOUR FRIENDS

“The treasure which you guard so zealously, now, that's a pile of sundry odds an' ends. When you put others down from jealousy, you elevate your ego, losing friends. So, pilgrim, please, do not exalt yourself; why put your neighbors' creeds and habits down? 'Cause Someday you might need somebody else! And, sister, they just might not be aroun'!”

WHY BE A FOOL?

(note for myself)

“Intelligent, but thinking like a fool – there’s many folks around the World like that. We monkeys tend ta think we’re Wise, and Cool, but Doing so is Nuts, not Where it’s At! Yes, vanity is foolish, through and through; when You be Proud, you’re apt ta blow it bad! So don’t be vain, if you would have a clue, but humbly pray, dear self, and You’ll be Glad!” “Why be a fool, when Life’s a School?!”

ARE YOU SPECIAL?

“Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” – Margaret Mead

You’re special – just like everybody else, though you’ve been blessed in certain special ways. But, please, don’t try ta magnify your Self, but offer up ta Christ your thanks and praise! Okay?”

DON'T MISS YOUR PRAYER RENDEZVOUS

“To fail to pray ‘s a truly foolish thing, unless already Spirit’s made ya Smart! There’s many gifts your angels want ta Bring, but First, you gotta have an humble heart. No, pride and recklessness will do ya in, if you won’t ask the Spirit what ta do. If you want beauty, love, and truth ta win, there needs ta be some praying, Done By You!”

YA NEVER NEED TA PRAY?

“And so you think ya never need ta pray, it’s just an optional delusion, right? You’d best get With it, buddy, while ye may! It’s way past time ya woke and saw the Light! The Holy Spirit, that’s the pilgrim’s guide, and all the time she’s whispering ta You. But if you’re lost in ordinary pride, you’ll miss the clue, and not know What ta do!”
